Why mockups anyway?

How do you want to present your designs or drafts? Flat and two-dimensional, the way you develop them in InDesign and the like? Then double-click on a smart object layer and insert your design in the open workspace via File>Place and Embed.... Set the selection for Crop to Media frame.
